In order to measure the speed of light, Galileo stood on a hilltop holding a lantern. He sent his assistant whom he had instructed beforehand to stand on the hilltop five kilometres from the one on which he was standing and move his lantern when he saw Galileo’s lantern rising.

- How, in your view, did Galileo imagine that he could measure the speed of light in that way?

- Do you think he succeeded?

- What problems would somebody have to cope with, when trying to measure the speed of light?

- What should he do so as to measure the speed of light?
